Can a Smile Make a Difference?

We live in a dark, dark world filled with people living in hopelessness. These people long for love and happiness but are surrounded by hatred and sadness. They seek out peace and comfort but find only violence and fear. They dream of goodness and beauty in life but live in the midst of destruction and death. They resign to believe there is no hope in this world.

Oh, but don’t they know? There is a hope, and that hope is Jesus Christ. He gave His life for all the world because of His great love for each one of us. He conquered death and rose from the grave so we could be saved from the darkness of this world and look forward to the day when there will be no more pain, no more sorrow, no more tears and no more death. Don’t they know that Jesus offers His salvation and His love freely to everyone? Sadly, they do not.

Who will tell them of this great Love? Who will show them? “Not me,” you say. “I don’t know how.” Surely, you do. It is as easy as smiling. Say “hello” to your neighbor and let him know that you care. Offer a drink to the woman sitting on a park bench and let her know she is not alone. Wave a hand to the little girl peeking through her window and let her know that you see her. Share Jesus with your acts of kindness and see how quickly the darkness of our world fades.

Yes, the world is dark and we are all affected by its darkness. Our hope, however, is found in Jesus for only His comfort can bring Joy in the midst of sadness and sorrows (Psalm 94:19). Only His peace can calm our storms of anxiety and chaos (Philippians 4:6 – 7). Only His love can conquer our fears (1 John 4:18) and bring life to a dying world (John 3:16).

Will you share this Hope with someone today? Will you allow God’s Love to shine through you?

Go ahead. Smile, and watch God’s love change the world!
