Reason to SMILE #20: FREEDOM OF CHOICE
Our days are filled with choices. What should we wear? What food should we eat? Should we allow our children to go here or there? Should we make that purchase? Do we say exactly what we are thinking? Do we watch the Presidential Inauguration with disgust and contempt or do we watch with hope and prayerful support for our country? (Sorry, I had to throw that one in there! 😉 )
Some choices don’t have much effect on our lives:
Decaf or fully leaded coffee?
Black flats or the suede wedges with fringe?
Subway or Mickey D’s?
Watch a comedy or a thriller?
Other choices have more significance than we can ever imagine, changing the course of our futures and impacting the lives of those around us:
Quit my job or hang on a little longer?
Follow my dreams or live in regret?
Give in to temptation or stay strong?
Give my life to Christ or take my chances with the world?
Focus on the good or concentrate on the negative?
No matter their importance, the choices are ours to make. We are not puppets on a string. We are not robots following a built-in program. We are human beings with the freedom to choose. Of course, that freedom means we do have to accept the consequences of our choices but perhaps that’s a message for another day. 😉
Woo Hoo! You have the freedom to choose! So SMILE – or don’t – it’s your choice!
