Reason to SMILE #81: KIDISMS VOL. 3
The story of Zaccheus goes something like this:
Zaccheus was a tax collector in his town and was known for robbing and cheating everyone. He was not a popular guy. On top of being hated by the entire town, he was most likely made fun of, too, because Zaccheus was a very short man.
One day, Jesus made a visit to the town where Zaccheus lived and everyone went out to see Him. Zaccheus went to see Jesus, too, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So, Zaccheus climbed up a sycamore tree hoping to catch a glimpse.
When Jesus reached the tree in which Zaccheus was perched, He stopped, looked up at Zaccheus and said, “Zaccheus, come on down from there. Let’s go eat lunch at your house.” The people in the town could not believe that Jesus would even enter the house of the most hated of men and worst of sinners. But Zaccheus’ life changed forever that day. He repented of his wrong doings and repaid all those he had cheated.
The review of the Bible story goes something like this:
“What was the name of the man who climbed a tree in our story today?” I asked.
“Zaccheus,” the kids responded.
“What was Zaccheus’ job?” I continued my questions.
A little boy raised his hand. “A TAX-i driver!?!”
Well, you have to hand it to him. He was at least paying attention a little bit.
I never know what I’m going to hear in children’s ministry but I always know there’ll be lots of SMILES!
