I have a teenager. He survives on nothing but cheeseburger macaroni – not the easy blue box stuff or the happy-faced oven mitt stuff. No. He wants home-made cheeseburger mac with real cheese.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem.
Normally, there would be plenty of cheese sitting in my refrigerator and if not, I could make a quick grocery run to pick up a pack.
Normally, everyone in the entire country wouldn’t be stocking their pantries, refrigerators and freezers all at once for 2 – 3 weeks of sheltering in place!
These days are nowhere near normal.
But it’s the not-so-normal times like these that shed light on all the things we take for granted. Things like greeting each other with a handshake or a hug. Things like having the postman hand you a package. Things like enjoying a meal in a crowded restaurant or sitting in a stadium filled with thousands of screaming fans. Things like going to school or dance recitals or graduation ceremonies.
Things like being able to buy cheese whenever we need it!
Yes, it’s definitely a different world right now. But maybe when all of this is over, we’ll have a new appreciation for all those things we’ve been taking for granted. And maybe the next time we see an empty grocery shelf or the words “Out of Stock” on our online grocery orders, we’ll just SMILE and take the opportunity to try something new.
Now, if the coffee supply runs dry, that may be a whole different story! 😉
