A Year of Smiles – Day 85

Reason to SMILE #85: VISION

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)  Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Several years ago, I found myself struggling to read street signs as glasses-facebook-emoticonI was driving.  It was a strange phenomenon for me.  I had had perfect eyesight for almost 30 years and suddenly, I could no longer recognize a face from across the room.  I had to accept that if I wanted to see clearly again, I needed glasses.

It’s the same with our spiritual vision at times.  As Christians, we can be steadily rolling along in our walk with God. We’re focused, seeking Him daily, listening to His voice and following His lead.  Then one day, we find ourselves struggling to see His hand.  We look around and realize that somehow, somewhere we lost sight of what’s important, of our purpose.

You see, losing our vision, whether physical or spiritual, is usually a gradual process.  Little by little, our clarity fades each day growing more blurry and clouded.  We don’t notice it, at first, so we do nothing to correct it.  And our vision continues to deteriorate until one day, we realize that our vision is gone.

Oh, but here comes the SMILE.  There’s always a SMILE.  When we’ve lost our vision, when we’ve lost sight of God’s purpose for our lives and all He has in store for us, all we have to do to see clearly again is to reach for God’s Word.  “He that keepeth the law, happy is he.”  Just like putting on a pair of glasses while I’m driving helps me see that I need to turn right in 3 miles and not 5 miles in order to get to my destination, reading and obeying God’s Word helps me discover God’s direction and plans for my life.

Is your vision a little cloudy today?  Are you not sure of where you’re going in life or what your purpose is?  Open up the Bible.  Ask God to restore your vision.  Trust and obey His Words to you.  God promised you’d SMILE if you do – well, He said you’d be happy and I’ve never known a happy person who didn’t wear a SMILE!
