Reason to SMILE #30: MONDAYS (Really??)

Reason to SMILE #30: MONDAYS (Really???) - Do you have an aversion to Mondays? Discover how to find a SMILE in the most dreaded day of the week. | https://acoupleofstarsandahappyface.wordpress.com

Mondays, for me, are like mornings. I’d much rather avoid them.

The problem is I can’t hit the fast forward button and skip over Mondays just like I can’t skip over mornings. Well, I suppose I could stay in bed and wait til Mondays pass but if I do that, my week would begin with Tuesdays. Then Tuesdays would end up being my Mondays and you’d eventually be reading a post about how much I hate Tuesdays.

OK. That’s a little too much thinking for a Monday.

So, how can I turn the dreaded Monday into a SMILE? To be honest with you, I’m still working on that one.

But I have an idea.

What if we turned the beginning of our work week into a celebration? You know, like New Year’s.

No, I’m not talking fire works (though my neighbor, who doesn’t seem to need a reason to shoot off fireworks, wouldn’t mind it!). And, no, I’m not talking alcohol, either. You can’t very well begin your work week tipsy, now can you! (The correct answer to that is “No,” in case you were wavering on that concept. 😉 )

I’m talking about turning your Monday into a day you can look forward to. Find a way to have a little fun. Blast some tunes as you’re getting ready for the day. Do a little dancing to get your blood flowing and those endorphins jumping. Splurge on your favorite coffee from that expensive coffee shop. Pick a new route to work. Buy donuts!

You see, it’s all about perspective – about focusing on the positive instead of the negative.

Monday is a new day, a new beginning, the start of a fresh work week filled with new opportunities for all sorts of SMILES – SMILES for you and SMILES to share with others.

Still not convinced that Mondays can be SMILES? That’s okay. Just keep telling yourself there are only 4 more days til the weekend and SMILE anyway!

So, what are you waiting for? Pump up the music and keep the coffee flowin’.

Let’s get this Monday started!

A Year of Smiles – Day 338: The SMILES of Christmas

Christmas SMILE #4 (Reason to SMILE #338): THE CLOTHES

Of all the holidays, Christmas has to be the one with the largest clothing line. (I’m pretty sure the sale of this yuletide apparel is how Santa funds his “little” toy-making endeavor! 😉 ) And if you’re in the market for festive fashion, there are plenty of options to choose from:

Rudolph T-Shirts,

Santa Hats,

Candy Cane striped leggings,

Elf Pajamas.

Men’s Wrapping Paper Suits (at least that’s what they look like to me!),

“Jesus is the Reason for the Season” Neckties,

Jingle Bell Scarves,

Blinking Christmas Light Necklaces and

Ugly Christmas Sweaters.

If you think about it, we probably all know at least one person who seems to own every piece of Christmas-themed clothing or accessory known to mankind! From the moment the holiday season begins, there isn’t a day when these folks aren’t clad in something that screams, “I’m a Christmas lover!” But somebody’s gotta pay for all of those toys being delivered to millions of kids all over the world, right? 😉

Sadly, I’m not a big contributor to Santa’s toy-making fund. I own very few items of Christmas clothing. I’m too practical to spend money on clothing I can’t wear all year ’round! But I have to admit that I do own many pairs of Christmas socks. I love them. They’re cute. They keep my tootsies warm and they make me SMILE.

And this year, instead of an Ornament Swap, I convinced the ladies at church to do a Christmas Socks Swap. (Betcha didn’t know I had such persuasive powers, did ya! Hehe!) Everyone is asked to bring a pair of Christmas socks stuffed with goodies to exchange. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? As far as I’m concerned, though, they can skip the goodies. A festive pair of Christmas socks is all I need to find a SMILE!

A Year of Smiles – Day 36

football-emoticonReason to SMILES #36: FOOTBALL

I bet you knew that would be the SMILE for today, didn’t you?  To be honest, I’m not a football fan.  In fact, the other day, I actually helped my son write an argumentative essay on why football should not be played.  Keep your cool – it was just a homework assignment!  I’m not going to start any protests or anything. 😉  But even though I’m not a fan, there is one thing about football that makes me SMILE – the fellowship.

There’s nothing like a football game to bring people together.  Friends, food and fun – that’s what it’s about.  Sure, for most, it’s the team.  It’s the win.  But even a victory is better enjoyed when you’re surrounded by friends.  And if your team happens to lose, well, it’s possible those friends may spend a little time rubbing it in.  When it’s all said and done, though, getting together to watch the game always means fun and always creates SMILES.

So, if you’re not already sitting around the television with family and friends waiting for the kick-off (I got that right, didn’t I? 😉 ), then what are you waiting for?  Go make some memories tonight and enjoy all the SMILES!
