Reason to SMILE #267: COVERED DISH SUPPERS
I don’t know if any of you have ever been to a covered dish supper at a Southern Baptist church but in my opinion, these wonderfully delicious events offer a glimpse of what heaven is going to be like. Seriously.
I’m talking tables filled with delicious casseroles of every kind – corn casserole, squash casserole, broccoli casserole, chicken and rice casserole, green bean casserole! Then there’s the table containing the southern style vegetables. You know, the ones cooked with lots of butter, bacon grease or lard. Next, you’ll find a table filled with salads galore – gel salads, pasta salads, corn salads, black-eyed pea salad, cornbread salad. But the best table of all is the homemade desserts table! Yu-um-my!!
Like I said, heaven on earth.
We had one of those covered dish suppers today. And…
I. Am. Dying.
I’ve eaten so much that I need to ask God to forgive me for gluttony!
I am miserably happy.
I hope you have a chance to experience a covered dish supper at your own church. And if your church doesn’t have them, please let me know. I’ll definitely invite you next time we have one. No one – and I mean no one – should miss out on such a delicious SMILE. 😋
My stepdad’s church had their monthly community picnic this evening. Good food. Good friends. Good strangers. Good fellowship. A great God! 🙂
